Cirrhosis of the liver is a late stage of scarring (fibrosis) of the liver tissue caused by continuous liver damage over time.

Causes of Cirrhosis:

• Chronic Hepatitis B or C Infection

• Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

• Autoimmune Diseases

• Genetic Disorders

• Bile Duct Diseases: Primary biliary cirrhosis or primary sclerosing cholangitis

• Symptoms of Cirrhosis:

  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)

  • Swelling in the abdomen (ascites) and legs

  • Black stool (Malena)

  • Breathlessness

  • Yellow micturation

  • Decrease Urine output

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Fatigue and weakness

• Complications of Cirrhosis:

• Portal hypertension

• Hepatic encephalopathy

• Ascites

• Hepatorenal syndrome

• Liver cancer
