EUS (Endoscopic ultra sound)

Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure that uses a specialized endoscope equipped with an ultrasound probe to examine and guide treatments.

It’s a minimally invasive procedure that combines endoscopy and ultrasound to obtain images and information about the digestive tract and surrounding tissues and organs.

Indications for EUS :-

Diagnostic Purposes:

  •  Staging cancers (e.g., esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, rectal).
  • Assessing pancreatic cysts, tumors, or chronic pancreatitis.
  • Identifying gallstones, bile duct abnormalities, or mediastinal masses.
  • Detecting causes of unexplained abdominal pain

Therapeutic Purposes:

    • Fine needle aspiration (FNA) or biopsy.
    • Cyst drainage (e.g., pseudocysts in chronic pancreatitis).
    • Pain management (celiac plexus neurolysis).
    • Placing stents for drainage.

Advantages of EUS

  • High-resolution imaging for accurate diagnosis.
  • Allows minimally invasive biopsies and therapeutic procedures.
  • Reduces the need for more invasive surgeries.
